What's the drying window, and how soon is the room usable again?

Walk me through a typical appointment from arrival to finish.
We inspect the carpet first, check the fiber and note traffic lanes, pet spots and anything that may not fully release. Then we vacuum, apply pre-spray to the soiled areas and agitate it into the pile with a groomer or brush. Hot-water extraction follows, pulling the loosened soil and solution back out under vacuum. We finish with spot treatment where needed, grooming, and air movers in the rooms that need them. A two-story tract home with bedrooms, stairs and an upstairs hall usually runs two to three hours.

What's the difference between hot-water extraction, shampooing and dry cleaning?
Hot-water extraction is what most people call steam cleaning. Hot solution goes down, soil and water come back up, and it's the method Shaw, Mohawk and Stainmaster specify in their warranty language. Shampooing scrubs a foaming detergent into the pile and is mostly used on commercial glue-down carpet that has to stay in service. Dry cleaning uses an absorbent compound with almost no moisture, which suits wool and delicate Karastan or Masland goods that shouldn't get soaked. Residential cut pile in the Conejo Valley gets extraction unless the fiber says otherwise.

Realistically, how often should carpet be cleaned?
Every twelve months covers a quiet household with no pets. Most homes here aren't that: high owner-occupancy, kids, dogs and cats, and Santa Ana winds from September through January driving dust, chaparral debris and ash indoors. With pets or heavy foot traffic, six to nine months keeps grit from grinding down the pile. Stairs and upstairs halls wear out first and can be done on their own between full cleanings.

What drives the price, and how do I find out what mine will be?
The estimate is free and the quote is firm before we start. Square footage and room count matter most, then stairs, which are priced by the flight because they take hand work. Is shifting the furniture part of the service?
Yes, within reason. Sofas, chairs, coffee tables, nightstands and dining chairs get moved, cleaned under, and set back on blocks or protective tabs. We leave beds, large armoires, entertainment centers, pianos and anything holding electronics where they sit and clean around and under the edges as far as the wand reaches. Which stains come out, and which ones won't?
Food, drink, mud, tracked-in dust, most pet accidents and general traffic soil come out. Coffee, red wine and pet urine usually lift with the right treatment if they haven't sat for months. What we can't promise is bleach damage, hair dye, mustard, some inks, and fiber that's been permanently discolored or dulled by wear. On older 1970s and 1980s carpet the pile itself may be worn flat in the lanes, and cleaning removes the soil but can't rebuild the fiber. We'll tell you which spots we expect to beat before we start.

Are the products you use safe for kids and pets?
Yes. Our pre-sprays and rinses are chosen for use in occupied family homes, and hot-water extraction rinses the solution back out rather than leaving it in the pile. No lingering chemical smell once the carpet dries. Keep kids and animals off the wet carpet during the job and until it's dry, mainly so nobody tracks damp fiber onto tile or hardwood. If someone in the house has allergies or sensitivities, say so and we'll adjust the products.

Do you clean upholstery, area rugs and tile too?
We do. Sofas, sectionals, dining chairs and mattresses get cleaned with fabric-appropriate tools and lower moisture. Area rugs can be cleaned in place or picked up for off-site work depending on backing and fiber, and wool needs the gentler approach. Tile and grout is a common request in Thousand Oaks because so many newer builds run tile or hardwood downstairs with wall-to-wall cut pile upstairs. Bundling carpet with tile or upholstery in one visit saves a trip.
